The Mike Dean Memorial Scholarship

Guidelines & Requirements

Mike Dean Memorial Scholarship is a $3,000 post graduate scholarship for employees of Member Companies of Mesa Hotline School. The purpose of the Mike Dean Memorial Scholarship is to remember and recognize a great mentor and teacher, as well as what he meant to the Mesa Hotline School organization.  He spent countless hours teaching Lineman and Substation Techs on the dangers of, and operation of electrical equipment.  This scholarship is for assistance in paying student loans and other expenses associated with becoming an electric line worker. The applicant must have graduated from an accredited power line workers program; must be currently employed for a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years.

Applications must be submitted in writing to Mesa Hotline School’s Scholarship Committee by April 1st.

Applications must be typed or printed and include your Employers signature, title, comments and recommendations of why you should be considered for this scholarship. Include a copy of your college transcripts along with a copy of your graduation certificate.  Answer the following two essay questions.

  1. Describe what motivated you to work in the electric industry and become an electric line worker.
  2. Describe your on-the-job experience since you been working in the electrical industry.

Your scholarship application will not be accepted if you fail to include all the above-mentioned information with your scholarship application.

The selection committee will schedule interviews with the applicants to be held during the two weeks of Hotline School. An in-person interview is the preferred interview method. A phone interview will be scheduled if you are unable to attend Hotline School either week.

The successful applicant will be announced during the second week of the Mesa Hotline School Banquet. A check will be presented at this time to the successful applicant if they are present, otherwise the check will be mailed. The successful applicant will be asked to write thank you letters to The Mike Dean Family as well as Mesa Hotline School Board of Directors.

Other than the payment of the scholarship, no obligation or liability is assumed by Mesa Hotline School or its Board of Directors. The scholarship may be discontinued at any time, at the discretion of Mesa Hotline School Board of Directors.
